An SSH key is a cryptographic key pair used to authenticate to SSH servers without sending a reusable password. The private key stays securely stored, while the public key is installed on target systems so that clients can prove their identity during connection.
In Devolutions Server, SSH keys are stored as credential entries in vaults and used by tools such as Remote Desktop Manager, Devolutions Launcher or the web client when opening SSH sessions. Centralizing keys simplifies rotation, helps enforce key length and algorithm policies, and ensures audit logs show exactly which key and user accessed a system.
