# Keyboard shortcuts and accessibility

Every keyboard shortcut in UniGetUI, and how it works with screen readers and your system's accessibility settings.

## Keyboard shortcuts

The shortcuts use the <kbd>Ctrl</kbd> key on every platform, including macOS. The only exception is saving in a dialog, where <kbd>Cmd</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd> also works on a Mac.

### Anywhere in the main window

<table><thead><tr><th width="250">SHORTCUT</th><th>ACTION</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>1</kbd></td><td>Open <em><strong>Discover Packages</strong></em>.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>2</kbd></td><td>Open <em><strong>Software Updates</strong></em>.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>3</kbd></td><td>Open <em><strong>Installed Packages</strong></em>.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>4</kbd></td><td>Open <em><strong>Package Bundles</strong></em>.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>5</kbd></td><td>Open <em><strong>Settings</strong></em>.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>6</kbd></td><td>Open <em><strong>Package Managers</strong></em>.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>7</kbd></td><td>Open the <em><strong>More</strong></em> menu (logs, operation history, release notes, help, about, quit).</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Tab</kbd> / <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>Tab</kbd></td><td>Go to the next or previous page, in the order of the left menu.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>F</kbd></td><td>Move to the search box.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>F5</kbd> or <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>R</kbd></td><td>Reload the current list or log.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>A</kbd></td><td>Select all packages, or clear the selection if all are selected. In a log, selects all text.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>D</kbd></td><td>Open the details of the selected package.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>F1</kbd></td><td>Open <em><strong>Help</strong></em>.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>W</kbd> or <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Q</kbd></td><td>Close the window. If <em><strong>Close UniGetUI to the system tray</strong></em> is on, UniGetUI keeps running in the background.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Esc</kbd></td><td>Close the open dialog.</td></tr></tbody></table>

### In a package list

<table><thead><tr><th width="250">SHORTCUT</th><th>ACTION</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><kbd>Enter</kbd></td><td>Open the details of the selected package.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Enter</kbd></td><td>Run the page's main action on the selected package: install, update or uninstall.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Alt</kbd>+<kbd>Enter</kbd></td><td>Open the installation options of the selected package.</td></tr><tr><td>Any letter or number</td><td>Start a search with that character.</td></tr></tbody></table>

These shortcuts also appear on the right of the package context menu.

### In the settings search

When you type in ***Search settings***:

<table><thead><tr><th width="250">SHORTCUT</th><th>ACTION</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><kbd>Down</kbd> / <kbd>Up</kbd></td><td>Move through the suggestions.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Enter</kbd></td><td>Open the highlighted setting.</td></tr><tr><td><kbd>Esc</kbd></td><td>Close the suggestions.</td></tr></tbody></table>

### In dialogs and other pages

<table><thead><tr><th width="250">WHERE</th><th>SHORTCUT</th><th>ACTION</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Installation options</td><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd> (<kbd>Cmd</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd> on macOS)</td><td>Save the options.</td></tr><tr><td>Devolutions Agent policy editor</td><td><kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd> (<kbd>Cmd</kbd>+<kbd>S</kbd> on macOS)</td><td>Save the policy.</td></tr><tr><td>Installation options, list of processes to close</td><td><kbd>Enter</kbd> or <strong>,</strong></td><td>Add the typed process name.</td></tr><tr><td><em><strong>Manage ignored updates</strong></em>, automatic updates list</td><td><kbd>Esc</kbd></td><td>Close the window.</td></tr><tr><td><em><strong>Operation history</strong></em></td><td><kbd>Enter</kbd></td><td>Open the output of the selected operation.</td></tr><tr><td><em><strong>Operation history</strong></em></td><td><kbd>Delete</kbd></td><td>Remove the selected entry from the history.</td></tr></tbody></table>

### Moving around with the keyboard

* <kbd>Tab</kbd> and <kbd>Shift</kbd>+<kbd>Tab</kbd> move between controls. <kbd>Space</kbd> or <kbd>Enter</kbd> activate the focused button, toggle or menu item, including the left menu and the ***More*** menu.
* After you change pages with <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>1</kbd> to <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>6</kbd> or <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>Tab</kbd>, focus moves to the selected page in the left menu, so screen readers announce where you are. Press <kbd>Tab</kbd> to move into the page.

## Screen readers

UniGetUI exposes its interface to Windows Narrator, NVDA, JAWS, macOS VoiceOver and other screen readers through the platform accessibility APIs.

* Buttons, icons, toggles and fields have names, including icon-only buttons such as reload or delete.
* UniGetUI announces, without moving focus:
  * the page you just opened,
  * when an operation starts, finishes or fails (failures interrupt the current speech),
  * when a toggle setting turns on or off,
  * when you select all packages or clear the selection,
  * input errors, for example a missing source name.
* Dialogs are modal: while one is open, the keyboard stays inside it, and <kbd>Esc</kbd> closes it.

## Visual and motion settings

UniGetUI follows your system settings rather than adding its own:

<table><thead><tr><th width="250">SYSTEM SETTING</th><th>EFFECT IN UNIGETUI</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Windows: <em><strong>Animation effects</strong></em> off · macOS: <em><strong>Reduce motion</strong></em> on · Linux (GNOME): animations off</td><td>Turns off interface animations.</td></tr><tr><td>Light or dark mode</td><td>Followed when <em><strong>Application theme:</strong></em> is <em><strong>Follow system color scheme</strong></em>.</td></tr><tr><td>Text size, display scaling</td><td>Applied by the operating system.</td></tr></tbody></table>

On Windows, ***Use the font configured in Windows instead of the default interface font*** displays UniGetUI in your system font. See [User interface preferences](/unigetui/reference/settings.md#user-interface-preferences).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.devolutions.net/unigetui/reference/keyboard-shortcuts-and-accessibility.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
