# Scheduled updates don't run

Get scheduled update checks, update installations and backups running again in UniGetUI.

Updates aren't checked or installed at the time you set, or no backup is created.

## Why it happens

UniGetUI runs its scheduled tasks itself. It doesn't create tasks in the Windows Task Scheduler or cron. So a task is skipped when:

* UniGetUI wasn't running at the scheduled time.
* The task is off, or set to skip a missed run.
* Updates are held back by a battery, battery saver or metered connection restriction.
* No update matches: the automatic update list is empty, or the updates are ignored, skipped, or newer than the minimum update age.

## Fix it

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Keep UniGetUI running

Tasks run as long as UniGetUI is running, even minimized to the notification area.

1. Go to ***Settings*** – ***User interface preferences*** and turn on ***Close UniGetUI to the system tray***.
2. On Windows, click ***Open*** next to ***Manage UniGetUI autostart behaviour*** and make sure UniGetUI starts when you sign in.
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Catch up on missed runs

1. Go to ***Settings*** – ***Scheduled maintenance***.
2. Check that the task's toggle is on, and review ***Repeat***, ***Days*** and ***Start time***.
3. In ***If the scheduled time is missed***, choose ***Run whenever UniGetUI next starts*** or ***Run within*** a delay. That way, a computer that was off at the scheduled time still runs the task.
4. Click ***Run now*** to test it. The last and next run times, and the last error if any, appear beside the button.
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Check why updates aren't installed

If updates are found but not installed:

1. In ***Scheduled maintenance*** – ***Install available updates***, look at ***Install***. If it's ***Only packages marked for automatic updates***, click ***Manage the list*** and add the apps you want updated.
2. In ***Settings*** – ***Package update preferences***, review the battery, battery saver and metered connection options, and the ***Minimum age for updates***. See [Update safely](/unigetui/guides/updates/update-safely.md).
3. In ***Software Updates***, click ***Manage ignored updates*** to check the app isn't ignored or skipped. See [Keep an app on a specific version](/unigetui/guides/updates/hold-a-version.md).
   {% endstep %}
   {% endstepper %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Deployed UniGetUI for all users with a management tool? The startup entry is created for the account that ran the installer, so your users may not start UniGetUI at sign-in. See [Deploy UniGetUI silently](/unigetui/for-it-teams/organization/deploy.md).
{% endhint %}

## Still not running?

Open ***More*** – ***UniGetUI Log***, look for errors around the scheduled time, and [send the logs to support](/unigetui/help/troubleshooting/send-logs-to-support.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.devolutions.net/unigetui/help/troubleshooting/scheduled-updates-dont-run.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
