# Update everything in one click

Update all your outdated apps at once, or only the ones you pick, from the Software Updates page.

***Software Updates*** lists every app that has a newer version, whatever package manager it comes from. You can update them all in one go, or pick just a few.

## Update all your apps

1. Open ***Software Updates*** in the menu on the left.
2. Make sure ***Select all*** is selected at the top of the list. By default, every app in the list is already selected.
3. Click ***Update selection***.

UniGetUI queues the updates and runs them one after the other. Follow the progress at the bottom of the window; you can keep working in the meantime.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Some installers close the app they update. Save your work in any app on the list before you start.
{% endhint %}

## Update only some apps

* **A few apps:** clear ***Select all***, select the apps you want, then click ***Update selection***.
* **A single app:** right-click it and choose ***Update***.

Don't want an app to show up here at all? See [Keep an app on a specific version](/unigetui/guides/updates/hold-a-version.md).

## Update in a specific way

Click the arrow next to ***Update selection*** (or right-click a single app) for these variants:

<table><thead><tr><th width="260">CHOOSE</th><th>WHEN IT HELPS</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Update as administrator</strong></td><td>The update fails with an access or permission error. Windows only.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Interactive update</strong></td><td>You want to see the installer and answer its questions yourself.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Uninstall package, then update it</strong></td><td>An in-place update keeps failing. Available from the right-click menu.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Skip integrity checks</strong> / <strong>Skip hash check</strong></td><td>The installer hash doesn't match and you know why, for example the publisher replaced the file without updating the catalog. Use it rarely: it removes a security check.</td></tr></tbody></table>

Prefer to run the command yourself? Right-click the app and choose ***Manual update*** to open a terminal with the command ready to review.

## Know when updates are available

You don't need to open UniGetUI to find out. While it runs in the notification area, it shows a notification when updates are found. You can change this in ***Settings*** – ***Notification preferences*** with ***Show a notification when there are available updates***.

## If it doesn't work

* An update fails: open the operation's output at the bottom of the window. The package manager usually explains why. See [An update or installation fails](/unigetui/help/troubleshooting/update-or-install-fails.md).
* The list looks out of date: click ***Reload*** in the toolbar to check again.
* An app you expected isn't listed: see [What UniGetUI doesn't do](/unigetui/guides/understand/limits.md).

## Next

<table data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Let it happen by itself</strong></td><td>Choose which apps update automatically.</td><td><a href="/unigetui/guides/updates/automatic-updates.md">Choose which apps update automatically</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Hold an app back</strong></td><td>Skip a version, pause updates, or ignore them.</td><td><a href="/unigetui/guides/updates/hold-a-version.md">Keep an app on a specific version</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.devolutions.net/unigetui/guides/updates/update-all.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
