# Keep an app on a specific version

Keep an app on the version you need by skipping one release, pausing updates for a while, or ignoring them for good.

A new version can break a plugin, change a workflow, or simply arrive at a bad time. UniGetUI lets you hold an app back without turning off updates for everything else. Held-back apps leave the ***Software Updates*** list and are never updated automatically.

## Pick the right option

<table><thead><tr><th width="280">CHOOSE</th><th>WHAT HAPPENS</th><th>USE IT WHEN</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Skip this version</strong></td><td>Hides only the current new version. The app comes back when a newer one is released.</td><td>This particular release has a known problem.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Pause updates for</strong></td><td>Hides all updates for a period, from a day up to a year.</td><td>You're in the middle of a project and don't want changes right now.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Ignore updates for this package</strong></td><td>Hides all updates until you change your mind.</td><td>The app must stay on this version, for example for compatibility.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Skip minor updates for this package</strong></td><td>Hides small updates and still shows the bigger ones.</td><td>You want new features, but not every patch.</td></tr></tbody></table>

## Skip a version, pause, or ignore

1. Open ***Software Updates***.
2. Right-click the app.
3. Choose ***Skip this version***, ***Pause updates for*** and a period, or ***Ignore updates for this package***.

The app disappears from the list.

{% hint style="info" %}
To ignore several apps at once, select them and click ***Ignore selected packages*** in the toolbar. You can also ignore an app from ***Installed Packages***, even when it has no update yet.
{% endhint %}

## Skip minor updates only

With this option, an update from 2.4.1 to 2.4.2 is hidden, but 2.4.1 to 2.5.0 is shown.

1. Right-click the app in ***Software Updates*** and choose ***Update options***.
2. Turn off ***Follow the default options when installing, upgrading or uninstalling this package***.
3. In the ***General*** tab, select ***Skip minor updates for this package***.
4. In ***Ignore changes after the first … version numbers***, keep ***2*** (the default) or choose ***1*** or ***3***. The lower the number, the fewer updates you see.
5. Click ***Save and close***.

## Let updates through again

1. In ***Software Updates*** or ***Installed Packages***, click ***Manage ignored updates*** in the toolbar.
2. Find the app. The ***Ignored version*** column shows which version is held back, or ***All versions***.
3. Double-click the app, or click ***Remove from list*** next to it.

From ***Installed Packages***, you can also right-click the app and choose ***Do not ignore updates for this package anymore***.

{% hint style="warning" %}
***Reset list*** removes every app from the list at once and can't be undone.
{% endhint %}

## Good to know

* Paused apps come back on their own when the period ends. Skipped versions come back when a newer version is released.
* Your ignored and skipped updates are included in your app list backups. See [Back up your app list automatically](/unigetui/guides/new-computer/backup.md).
* An app disappeared from ***Software Updates*** and you didn't hold it back? Check ***Manage ignored updates***, then see [Troubleshooting](/unigetui/help/troubleshooting.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.devolutions.net/unigetui/guides/updates/hold-a-version.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
