Authentication

Authentication in Devolutions Server is the process of verifying a user’s identity before granting access to vaults and administrative features. It can rely on local accounts or external identity providers such as Active Directory, Azure AD, or other SSO platforms, and is typically combined with multifactor authentication for stronger assurance.

Once authenticated, users receive permissions through roles and groups, and credentials are brokered on their behalf when launching connections. This separation of identity, authorization, and credential usage helps reduce lateral movement and supports compliance requirements for privileged access management.
