# Folders

Folders organize entries inside a vault in Devolutions Server and provide a natural boundary for delegating permissions and temporary access. They let you mirror your organizational structure, for example by environment, business unit, or customer, while keeping navigation simple for end users. Security is typically applied at the folder level, with user group based security inheriting rights to child folders and entries but allowing overrides where needed.

A common pattern is a top level folder per customer, subfolders for infrastructure and passwords, and a restricted subfolder for privileged accounts.
