# Overview of Devolutions Server

Devolutions Server is a self-hosted password and privileged access management (PAM) solution. Review its system requirements and topologies.

Devolutions Server is a self-hosted password management and privileged access management (PAM) solution. It stores and shares credentials, remote connections, and other sensitive information across an organization. Access is granted with [user group-based access control](/server/concepts/advanced-concepts/permissions-rbac-and-roles.md), and user activity is logged.

Devolutions Server is a web application installed on the organization's own infrastructure: on Windows Server with Internet Information Services (IIS), on [Linux](/server/knowledge-base/how-to-articles/install-devolutions-server-for-linux.md), or in a [Docker container](/server/knowledge-base/how-to-articles/devolutions-server-docker-deployment.md). It can be offered on an intranet only or published on the internet. It works with the following components:

* The [web interface](/server/web-interface.md), accessed from a browser.
* Remote Desktop Manager and Devolutions Password Manager, where the Devolutions Server instance is added as a workspace.
* [Devolutions Gateway](/server/concepts/basic-concepts/devolutions-gateway-with-devolutions-server.md), which relays approved remote sessions to internal systems without exposing them directly to the internet.
