# Lock a workspace

To protect sensitive data in your workspace configuration (e.g., server URL or credentials), you may wish to lock the workspace configuration before you deploy it to your users. You can do it by using the ***Lock/Unlock*** button from the toolbar.

The locked workspace will require a password. The password must be specify when the lock is applied. Use the same password to unlock it or to modify the workspace configuration.

{% hint style="danger" %}
There is no way of unlocking the workspace if the password is lost or forgotten. In such an event, you will need to configure a new workspace. However the content of the database will not be lost.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/workspaces/lock-a-workspace.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
