# Deploy Remote Desktop Manager using Microsoft Intune

Deploy Remote Desktop Manager to Windows devices with Microsoft Intune and distribute a default configuration file for consistent setups.

This guide explains how to deploy Remote Desktop Manager to Windows devices using Microsoft Intune, and how to distribute a default configuration file so that all users start with a consistent Remote Desktop Manager setup.

### Prerequisites

Remote Desktop Manager requires the Microsoft .NET 10 Windows Desktop Runtime (see [System requirements](/rdm/overview-of-devolutions-rdm/system-requirements.md)). Intune installs Win32 apps silently and without user interaction, so deploy the runtime as its own Win32 app and set it as a dependency of the Remote Desktop Manager app. Intune then installs the runtime first on any device that does not have it.

1. Download the .NET 10 Windows Desktop Runtime installer for x64 (`windowsdesktop-runtime-10.x.x-win-x64.exe`) from the [official .NET download page](https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet/10.0).
2. Package the installer as an `.intunewin` file with the [Microsoft Win32 Content Prep Tool](https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2065730).
3. In the Microsoft Intune admin center, go to ***Apps*** – ***All apps*** – ***Create***, select ***Windows app (Win32)***, then upload the `.intunewin` file.
4. On the ***Program*** page, enter the following commands, replacing `10.x.x` with the version you downloaded:

   * ***Install command***: `windowsdesktop-runtime-10.x.x-win-x64.exe /install /quiet /norestart`
   * ***Uninstall command***: `windowsdesktop-runtime-10.x.x-win-x64.exe /uninstall /quiet /norestart`

   Set ***Install behavior*** to ***System***.
5. On the ***Detection rules*** page, select ***Manually configure detection rules***, then add a ***File*** rule:

   * ***Path***: `C:\Program Files\dotnet\shared\Microsoft.WindowsDesktop.App`
   * ***File or folder***: `10.x.x` (the version you packaged)
   * ***Detection method***: ***File or folder exists***

   To detect any .NET 10 Windows Desktop Runtime version instead of a specific one, use a custom detection script that checks for a `10.*` folder under that path.
6. Finish creating the app. You do not need to assign it to a group, because Intune installs dependencies automatically.
7. Open the Remote Desktop Manager Win32 app, go to ***Properties*** – ***Dependencies***, then click ***Edit***. Click ***Add***, select the .NET 10 Windows Desktop Runtime app, and set ***Automatically install*** to ***Yes***. Save your changes.

### Distribute the default configuration file

To prepare the configuration file, open Remote Desktop Manager and select your workspace. Then, navigate to ***File*** – ***Settings*** – ***Export settings***. Select the settings you want to include and click ***Export***.

Within Intune, deploy the `RemoteDesktopManager.cfg` file to\
`C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Devolutions\RemoteDesktopManager\`.
