# Password list

Configure the Password list entry in Remote Desktop Manager to store usernames, passwords, domains, and expiration dates, plus copy actions.

The Password list entry allows secure storage and management of credentials, including usernames, passwords, associated domains, and descriptions.

1. Open Remote Desktop Manager and select ***Password list***. Click on the ***+ sign*** (***Add***).
2. In the ***Password list item*** window, enter the required information. You can also configure one-time password (OTP) settings or define custom fields if needed.

<table><thead><tr><th width="174.7999267578125">SETTINGS</th><th>DESCRIPTIONS</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Name</strong></td><td>Enter a meaning full name to identify the password list.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Host</strong></td><td>(Optional) Specify the host or IP address associated with the login.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Username</strong></td><td>Enter the username tied to this password.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Domain</strong></td><td>Specify the domain if applicable.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Password</strong></td><td>The corresponding password for the username.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Description</strong></td><td>Add notes or context about the entry.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Expires after</strong></td><td>(Optional) Set an expiration date for the password.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Sort priority</strong></td><td>Determines the order of this item in the list.</td></tr></tbody></table>

#### Actions available (left panel)

After creating a ***Password list*** entry, options such as ***View password***, ***Copy Username***, and ***Copy domain*** are available in the left panel.

<table><thead><tr><th width="220.4000244140625">SETTINGS</th><th>DESCRIPTIONS</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>View password</strong></td><td>Select which password to view from the <em><strong>Password list</strong></em>.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Navigate URL</strong></td><td>Open the URL from the selected <em><strong>Password list item</strong></em>.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Copy username and password</strong></td><td>Copy both the username and the password to your clipboard.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Copy username</strong></td><td>Copy only the username for the selected item in the <strong>Password list</strong>.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Copy password</strong></td><td>Copy only the password for the chosen <strong>Password list</strong> <em><strong>item</strong></em>.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Copy domain</strong></td><td>Copy the domain from the selected <strong>Password list</strong> <em><strong>item</strong></em>.</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Add password to the list</strong></td><td>Add a new <em><strong>Password list item</strong></em> to the <em><strong>Password list</strong></em> entry.</td></tr></tbody></table>

## Import password list items from a CSV file

To create ***Password list*** entries with many items at once, import a CSV file with the ***Import generic CSV wizard***. Rows that share the same name and folder are merged into one entry. See [Import a CSV file as a password list with hostnames](/rdm/knowledge-base/how-to-articles/import-a-csv-file-as-a-password-list-with-hostnames.md) for the required columns and an example file.

## Manage password list items with PowerShell

The [Devolutions PowerShell module](https://docs.devolutions.net/powershell) (version 2026.2.2 and later) includes four cmdlets to manage the items of a ***Password list*** entry:

* [Add-RDMEntryPasswordListItem](https://docs.devolutions.net/powershell/powershell-commands/add-rdmentrypasswordlistitem): adds an item and keeps the existing ones.
* [Get-RDMEntryPasswordListItem](https://docs.devolutions.net/powershell/powershell-commands/get-rdmentrypasswordlistitem): lists the items, optionally filtered by item name (wildcards are supported).
* [Set-RDMEntryPasswordListItem](https://docs.devolutions.net/powershell/powershell-commands/set-rdmentrypasswordlistitem): modifies an item. Only the parameters you specify are changed.
* [Remove-RDMEntryPasswordListItem](https://docs.devolutions.net/powershell/powershell-commands/remove-rdmentrypasswordlistitem): removes an item and keeps the other ones.

The entry is passed through the pipeline, or with the ***InputObject*** parameter. The changes are made to the entry in memory only: add the ***Set*** switch to save the entry, or call ***Set-RDMEntry*** afterwards. Every item must have at least a username or a password.

The examples below use a ***Password list*** entry named ***Web Servers***.

#### Create a password list entry

***New-RDMEntry*** creates a ***Credential*** entry; set its credential type to ***PasswordList*** before saving it.

```powershell
$entry = New-RDMEntry -Name 'Web Servers' -Type Credential -Group 'Infrastructure'
$entry.Credentials.CredentialType = 'PasswordList'
Set-RDMEntry -InputObject $entry
$entry = Get-RDMEntry -ID $entry.ID
```

#### Add items

```powershell
$entry | Add-RDMEntryPasswordListItem -Name 'admin' -Username 'admin' -Password 'Example-Pass-01' -Host 'web01.example.local'
$entry | Add-RDMEntryPasswordListItem -Name 'deploy' -Username 'deploy' -Password 'Example-Pass-02' -Host 'web01.example.local' -Description 'Deployment service account' -Set
```

The first command only adds the item to the entry in memory; the ***Set*** switch on the second command saves both items. The ***Password*** parameter accepts a string or a secure string.

#### List items

```powershell
Get-RDMEntry -Name 'Web Servers' | Get-RDMEntryPasswordListItem
```

Items the current user is not allowed to see are not returned. The ***Name*** parameter filters on the item name; items imported from a CSV file have no item name, so filter them on another property instead:

```powershell
Get-RDMEntry -Name 'Web Servers' | Get-RDMEntryPasswordListItem | Where-Object { $_.User -eq 'deploy' }
```

#### Update an item

```powershell
$entry = Get-RDMEntry -Name 'Web Servers'
$item = $entry | Get-RDMEntryPasswordListItem -Name 'deploy'
$entry | Set-RDMEntryPasswordListItem -Item $item -Password 'Example-Pass-03' -Description 'Password rotated' -Set
```

#### Remove an item

```powershell
$entry = Get-RDMEntry -Name 'Web Servers'
$item = $entry | Get-RDMEntryPasswordListItem -Name 'admin'
$entry | Remove-RDMEntryPasswordListItem -Item $item -Set
```

{% hint style="info" %}
To configure the one-time password (OTP) of an item, use ***Set-RDMEntryOTP*** with its ***PasswordListItemID*** parameter, set to the ***Id*** of the item.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/knowledge-base/knowledge-base-articles/entry-settings/password-list.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
