# Custom installer service

Generate custom installation packages in Remote Desktop Manager to deploy workspaces quickly and consistently across your enterprise using preconfigured settings. The ***Custom installer service*** is only available for [Devolutions Server and Devolutions Cloud](https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/workspaces/workspace-types/native-workspaces/devolutions-cloud/).

The ***Custom installer service*** replicates the configuration from a Remote Desktop Manager instance. This configuration is used to create an installer file (RDI), which is used to create the installation package intended for distribution. The configuration can contain workspace credentials, database templates, and more. It is a best practice to have a Remote Desktop Manager installation used specifically to create the installation package.

{% hint style="info" %}
The ***No Internet connection*** option in Remote Desktop Manager (***File*** – ***Settings*** – ***Advanced***) must be disabled for the custom installer to work.
{% endhint %}

Create an installer file using Remote Desktop Manager before creating the installer. This process is explained in [Export custom installer configuration](https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/installation/client/custom-installer-service/installer-file-generator/).

The custom installer service can be found in ***Tools*** – ***All tools***.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/getting-started/installation/client/custom-installer-service.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
