# Lost the master key set on the Devolutions Password Manager desktop app

To perform a clean installation of Devolutions Password Manager or to reset the application in case the master key is lost, delete the local data file.

### Solution

1. Close Devolutions Password Manager.
2. Find and delete the `shared_preferences.json` file (default path: `%AppData%\net.devolutions\Workspace`).
3. Launch Devolutions Password Manager.

1. Close Devolutions Password Manager.
2. Execute the following command in the Terminal: `defaults delete net.devolutions.authenticator`
3. Launch Devolutions Password Manager.
