Normally, a Devolutions Server license is activated by means of a prompt when launching the software for the first time. There are circumstances, however, in which license serials must be entered directly in the Devolutions Server web interface, such as when upgrading from a Free edition.
For online registration, the Enable internet access option must be enabled under the Features menu.
Here are the steps to enter a new Devolutions Server license within Devolutions Server's web interface:
- Head over to Administration – Licenses.
- Click on the Edit button to modify the current Devolutions Server license.
- Enter the new license or import a .lic license file, then click Save license.
Registration of other Devolutions products or integration
Other Devolutions products and integrations can be registered in the Administration – Licenses menu. The steps are the same as those described above for Devolutions Server licenses, except for the button to press at step #2, which is Add in this case:
CyberArk integration does not support the Assign to and Auto assign options, as it allows for an unlimited number of users.
Offline registration
Registering a license while offline (if internet is disabled or servers cannot be reached), can only be done by importing the .lic file provided with the purchase of Devolutions Server, which contains a JSON Web Token (JWT).
- Trial license: The license file must be downloaded from the Devolutions confirmation email and imported as described in the steps above for Devolutions Server 2023.3 and later.
- Purchased license: A purchased license must be downloaded from a Devolutions Portal account and imported as described in the steps above for Devolutions Server 2023.3 and later.
Devolutions Server Free license
After Devolutions Server has been installed and launched for the first time, a prompt appears asking for a license serial. To activate the Free edition, click the Activate the Free Version button to immediately access Devolutions Server with a free license. Devolutions Server Free Edition is limited to 10 users, and does not support SSO integrations (Okta, PingOne), Privileged Access Management (PAM) capabilities, and Devolutions Gateway integrations.
To learn more and compare the different versions available, check outDevolutions Servereditions comparison tables.
A Remote Desktop Manager Team Edition license is required to use Devolutions Server Free Edition.
Downgrading to a Devolutions Server Free license
Devolutions Server Team, Enterprise, and Platinum Editions can be downgraded to a Free Edition in just a few clicks. To do so, head over to Administration – Licenses, click on the vertical ellipsis button, and select Switch to free version.
Request a trial
Devolutions offers a 30-day trial for Devolutions Server Enterprise version and all its features upon request. For more information, consult Devolutions Server product page. The data accumulated in Devolutions Server during the 30-day trial is not altered or lost once the trial ends, but can simply be accessed again if a valid license serial is provided.
License expiration
All Devolutions Server subscription plans offer software maintenance for the duration of the subscription time, which includes all major/minor upgrades and technical support. Subscription agreements have to be renewed upon expiry. If this is not done, access to data will be limited to view only.
That being said, data can still be exported so migration to another type of data source than Devolutions Server is possible.
