Prevent issues by matching major and minor versions

Always match major and minor versions across Devolutions products (e.g., 2025.1 with 2025.1) to avoid errors and compatibility issues.

Major version

A major version refers to a release that introduces significant changes, new features, or major enhancements. The major version is identified by the first number after the year. For example, in 2024.3.27.0, the major version is 3.

Minor version

A minor version consists of incremental updates within a major version. These updates often include bug fixes, security patches, and minor enhancements but do not introduce major new features or changes that significantly alter functionality. For example, in 2024.3.27.0, the minor version is 27.

Stable and latest versions (Devolutions Server)

In addition to understanding major and minor versions, it is important to distinguish between stable and latest versions. This distinction applies only to Devolutions Server.

  • Stable: Refers to the latest minor version of the previous major release (e.g., 2023.3.16).

  • Latest: Refers to the most recent version available, which includes all the latest features, improvements, security patches, and bug fixes (e.g., 2024.1.11).

Each time a new major version is released (e.g., 2024.2.x), the latest version (2024.1.x) becomes the new stable version. No security updates or patches are provided for previous stable versions (e.g., 2023.3.x or earlier). This lifecycle is repeated for each new major release.

Version management

The Version management allows administrators to manage the data source availability in other versions of Remote Desktop Manager for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
