# SSH key

An SSH key is a cryptographic key pair used to authenticate securely to SSH servers without sending reusable passwords over the network. Private keys are kept secret while public keys are deployed on target systems, reducing the risk of password based attacks.

In Devolutions Cloud, SSH key entries store private keys centrally and can be linked to SSH connections or used from Remote Desktop Manager when Devolutions Cloud is the workspace. This allows you to manage rotation, permissions, and auditing for SSH keys in the same way as other credentials, while still launching sessions from your preferred client.
